To score well in the SSC CHSL exam, the candidate must have an understanding of the exam pattern and the syllabus. Hence, we have provided the details below. The exam has three phases and candidates need to clear all. Only then they can get selected for posts in Government offices. Detailed information is given below.

This will be a computer-based test that will be conducted online. The questions will be of objective type, asked as multiple choice. The exam pattern and SSC CHSL syllabus for Tier I have been given below.
Tier I exam will be an online computer-based exam. Candidates will have to solve a total of 100 questions of 2 marks each in 60 minutes. Each wrong answer will attract a negative marking of 1/2 mark. There will be four sections and each section will be on one particular subject. The subjects are General Intelligence, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude (Basic Arithmetic Skill), and English Language (Basic Knowledge). This will be a pen and paper-based exam. The paper will be a descriptive type in English/ Hindi only. The exam pattern and SSC CHSL syllabus for Tier I have been given below.
This exam will have two topics: Essay writing and Letter or Application writing. You will have 120 minutes to complete the exam. The paper in total will be 100 marks. There is no negative marking for this exam, so attempt the questions. To clear this round, you must secure at least 33% marks.

This will be a skill test or a typing test. It is qualifying in nature. The final merit will be based on your scores on the Tier I and Tier II exams. There is no specific syllabus for the SSC CHSL exam. The details below have been given as a skill test and typing test. This test will be conducted in the cities where the Regional Offices of the Commission are located or as decided by the Commission.
This is of a qualifying nature. You will be selected for this exam if you have qualified for both the Tier I and Tier II exams.

This is of a qualifying nature. The medium of the test will be English and Hindi and this will have to be opted for in the application form. This can not be changed later. Passage dictators will be provided to VH candidates who will read out the passage in the allotted time period.
