6. Madurai

Madurai is a major city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is the cultural capital of Tamil Nadu and the administrative headquarters of the district of Madurai, the third-largest city in Tamil Nadu and the 44th most populous city in India. Madurai has been a significant settlement on the banks of the Vaigai River for two millennia. Madurai is closely affiliated with the Tamil language, and the third Tamil Sangam, a large congregation of Tamil scholars, is said to have been held in the area.

Tirunelveli, also known as Nellai and traditionally (during British rule) as Tinnevelly, is a major town in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is the administrative seat of the District of Tirunelveli. It is the sixth-largest municipal corporation in the state after Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy and Salem. Tirunelveli is situated 700 km southwest of the state capital of Chennai. It is a centre with several schools, colleges and government offices. Tirunelveli is an ancient city, more than 2,000 years old.

The Tirunelveli industries include administration services, agricultural commerce, tourism, banking, agricultural machinery, information technology and education services. 4. Salem

Salem is a major town in the Salem district, situated on the banks of the Thirumanimutharu River in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is the fifth-largest urban agglomeration in the state by population and the fifth largest town in Tamil Nadu by area. It is the largest textile hub in Tamil Nadu, with more than 125 spinning mills, weaving units and clothing units. Before the 1960s, there were fewer spinning mills. Private hand weaving started to grow in the area after the 1960s and in the 1980s, the textile industry grew with new spinning mills and dyeing units set up to sustain the industry.

Salem is renowned for its silver jewellery, too. Shevat, Sivathapuram and Panangadu are the places where silver products are manufactured in the cottage industry. Salem manufactures World Quality Silver Anklets, Toe Pins, Collar Links, Pendents and Silverware. The Tamil Nadu government is seeking to bring Hindustan Aeronautics Limited on board to set up a manufacturing unit in Salem, as the state has been selected to set up the Center’s ambitious defence corridor scheme.

Chennai is the capital of the state of Tamil Nadu, India. Located on the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal, it is one of the main cultural, economic and educational hubs in southern India. According to the 2011 Indian census, India is the sixth-most populated city and fourth-most populous metropolitan agglomeration in India. The district, along with the neighbouring areas, is the Chennai Metropolitan Area. Traditional and de facto gateway to South India, Chennai is one of the most visited Indian cities by international visitors. 2. Trichy

Tiruchirappalli, also known as Tiruchi or Trichy, is a major Tier II town in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu and the administrative headquarters of the district of Tiruchirappalli. The city is credited with being the best living city and the cleanest city in Tamil Nadu, the fifth safest women’s city in India. It is the fourth-largest city and the fourth-largest urban agglomeration in the province. The Cauvery Delta starts 16 kilometres west of the town where the river Kaveri separates into two, creating the island of Srirangam, which is now part of the Tiruchirappalli City Municipal Corporation. Trichy is the second safest city in Tamil Nadu.

The first and the safest city in Tamil Nadu is Covai. Coimbatore, also known as Kovai or sometimes referred to as Covai, is a town in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is situated on the banks of the Noyyal River and is surrounded by the Western Ghats. Coimbatore is the second largest town in Tamil Nadu after Chennai and the 16th largest urban agglomeration in India. It is governed by the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation and is the administrative headquarters of the district of Coimbatore. The city is one of the major exporters of jewels, wet grinders, poultry and automobile components; the ‘Coimbatore Wet Grinder’ and the ‘Kovai Cora Cotton’ are recognised as Geographical Indications by the Government of India.
